Summer Wardrobe Basics for Men

Author: Janine Barclay
With the weather finally warming up, you'll soon be moving the last of those jumpers and jackets to the back of your closet – where they'll hopefully stay until the coming winter. However, as you begin to make space in your closet – and prepare to fill that space with summer clothes – consider a few season-appropriate basics and summer fashion trends.
When prepping your wardrobe for summer, it's always best to start off with ...
the essentials. For instance, it's a good idea to equip your closet with a few casual T-shirts, as well as a few formal shirts. Ensure the items are made out of light, breathable materials – such as cotton, silk, or linen. If you're worried about the fabrics wrinkling, consider getting them in blends – for example, a cotton-linen blend shirt.
Next, you'll want to ensure you have some shorts to wear on those warm summer days. Chino shorts, for instance, are perfect for summer. However, remember that some summer days will be cooler than others – so consider incorporating some chino or linen trousers into your summer wardrobe. Similarly, while you may have stowed all those winter jackets away for the summer, you'll still want something to pull over in case chillier days or nights sneak up on you. Opt for a cashmere cardigan or lightweight jacket, and you won't be left caught in the cold.
Next, you'll want to think about your footwear. Invest in a pair of quality sandals that will last you through the summer. Whether you prefer the chic look of leather sandals or the more relaxed look of flip flops, there are varying qualities of footwear on the market – and investing in a well-made pair for the summer will pay off. You might also consider purchasing a pair of casual yet stylish loafers – a wardrobe piece that's bound to work with various looks.
Last but not least, don't underestimate the importance of a good summer hat. Many people associate hats with winter. In fact, summer is the ideal time to wear a hat – not only for the purpose of style, but also to keep the sun out of your face. While the sun doesn't always feel strong in Britain, its rays can still cause a lot of damage if you're not protected. Choose a light or neutral coloured hat that will go with many different outfits, and protect yourself from damaging rays and the summer heat.
Ultimately, filling your summer closet with season-appropriate clothing is simple. Just focus on a set of important basics – such as casual shirts, shorts, and footwear – and you'll stay cool while looking great all summer long.
